NEW YORK — After tossing a no-hitter in his previous start, Corey Kluber completed only three innings against the Blue Jays on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, lifted from the game with tightness in his right shoulder. He will be further evaluated Wednesday, which will include MRI imaging.
Kluber was at the center of a dugout discussion with manager Aaron Boone during the third inning, prompting right-hander Michael King to warm up quickly. King relieved Kluber for the fourth inning.
The right-hander threw 58 pitches over three frames, permitting a two-run homer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. that snapped a scoreless streak by Yankees starting pitchers at 37 1/3 innings — a streak that began with Kluber’s no-hitter against the Rangers in Arlington last Wednesday.
Kluber’s no-hitter was the 12th in Yankees franchise history (11th in the regular season), and the first since David Cone’s perfect game in 1999. Limited to one inning in the Majors last year by injuries, Kluber has a 3.04 ERA across 10 starts for New York this season.
