A wild NASCAR weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway gave us three races with three winners, all will go on to the Championship 4. From the Truck Series to Xfinity and Cup, three playoff races to decide the next driver or drivers to make the Phoenix race. There was a lot going on this weekend.
To start, the Craftsman Truck Series got us going. Nick Sanchez, three weeks after his fight at Talladega with Matt Crafton, won the pole award. He wasn’t much of a factor in this Homestead race, though.
Defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Zane Smith found himself in a must-win position. He had to find victory lane or he would not be able to defend his title. However, it wasn’t meant to be. Not only did Carson Hocevar beat Smith for the win and spot in Phoenix, but things got worse.
Before Saturday was over, Smith was disqualified from the race. He had a windshield violation that was clear from the TV broadcast.
Here you can see the windshield buckling compared to that of Christian Eckes. NASCAR took the truck back to the R&D Center for further evaluation. We might see a fine later this week for Smith’s NASCAR team.
