CALGARY, Alberta — Byron “B.J.” Seaman, one of many founding house owners of the Calgary Flames, has died. He was 97.
He died Saturday in Calgary, in response to McInnis and Holloway Funeral Dwelling in Calgary.
James and late brother Daryl “Doc” Seaman have been co-owners of the NHL franchise for 30 years. They have been amongst six Calgary males, together with Nelson Skalbania, who purchased the Atlanta Flames and moved the membership to Alberta in 1980.
Present Flames co-owner and chairman Murray Edwards stated in a press release Thursday that the staff stays “without end grateful for the distinguished function B.J. and his brother Doc performed in bringing the NHL to Calgary. He was dedicated to his household and lived a lifetime of dedication to our Calgary neighborhood.”
Byron James Seaman was born in Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Byron, Daryl and brother Don arrived in Alberta for the beginning of an oil and fuel increase within the 1950s. The siblings based Seaman Engineering and Drilling, which later turned Bow Valley Industries.
Byron was inducted within the Alberta Sports activities Corridor of Fame and was a recipient of the Governor Common’s medal. He, Daryl and one other Flames founding member, Harley Hotchkiss, established a program to fund hockey initiatives.
The Seaman brothers helped fund the Worldwide Hockey Centre for Excellence in Calgary. In addition they helped set up a magnetic resonance analysis heart on the College of Calgary.
B.J. Seaman is survived by brother Don, 4 youngsters, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His spouse, Evelyn, died in 2003. Daryl died in 2009.
