Carlos Beltrán is joining the Mets’ front office, a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Sunday. The club has not confirmed the hiring.

The former Mets slugger was a nine-time All-Star and a three-time Gold Glove Award winner over a 20-year career in which he also played for the Royals, Astros, Giants, Cardinals, Yankees and Rangers.

Beltrán, 45, will be leaving the YES Network, for which he served as a color commentator on Yankees games during the 2022 season. His exact role within the Mets’ front office remains unclear, but it will be his second front office job since retiring as a player in 2017 — Beltrán also served as a special assistant to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman in ’19.

This isn’t the first time the Mets have shown interest in bringing Beltrán into the organizational fold. In late 2019, the club hired him to be its manager, but he stepped down without managing a game after his role in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal came to light — Beltrán played for Houston in 2017, when it won the first World Series title in franchise history.

Beltrán’s name appeared on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot for the first time this year, receiving 46.5 percent of the vote. A candidate is on the ballot for up to 10 years if he continues to receive more than 5 percent of the vote, and 75 percent is needed for election.

In 20 Major League seasons, Beltrán hit .279/.350/.486 with 435 home runs and 312 stolen bases. He was the 1999 American League Rookie of the Year with the Royals and proved to be one of the best hitters in postseason history, posting a 1.021 OPS with 16 home runs in 65 career playoff games.
