GWS captain Stephen Coniglio and key defender Phil Davis have suffered ankle injuries in their AFL side’s clash with Melbourne at Manuka Oval.
Coniglio and Davis limped off in the second quarter of Sunday night’s match.
The Giants confirmed during the second term that both stars will take no further part in the game.
GWS activated their medical substitute, thrusting Nick Shipley into the fray.
Young Giant Brent Daniels also hurt his ankle late in the opening half, but the club is upbeat he will be able to return after halftime.
Davis suffered his setback in innocuous fashion at the start of the second quarter, while Coniglio was in obvious discomfort after being tackled by Demon Tom Sparrow.
The Giants held a two-point lead at halftime, thanks to a combined four goals from Toby Greene and Josh Kelly.
GWS have started the season with two losses and are desperate to bank a victory that would leave North Melbourne as the only winless side after three rounds.
