Deontay Wilder says that he is “most definitely” interested in a fight with UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The Predator was set to face Tyson Fury in the boxing ring, but those talks have since fizzled out.
Now, he could be in for a big-money cross-over contest with Wilder as the Bronze Bomber revealed behind-closed-doors discussions with his promoter Al Haymon regarding the fight.
Speaking to the Insider, he said: “I think that would be an intriguing fight, and it would be a fight that would bring a lot of interest. It was mentioned to me before, and Al agreed. There’s the old saying, ‘If it makes dollars, it makes sense.’ And he agreed as well.”
When asked if those talks could lead to a fight, Wilder said: “Who knows? We may see that fight in the future. And if we do? Oh, boy. What a fight to see. The future is bright!”
“I’m the boxing heavyweight champion, he’s the UFC heavyweight champion, he’s in great shape, look at the muscles on him,” Fury continued. Ngannou added: “We are going to find out who is the baddest motherf***er on the planet,” to which Fury replied, “good man Francis.”
Ngannou is currently recovering from knee surgery, carried out in March and has said that he hopes to defend his UFC heavyweight title in early 2023. A fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is expected to be made to determine the next challenger for the 265lb strap.
