Deontay Wilder has declared that he is still open to facing Anthony Joshua in the not-so-distant future. The Bronze Bomber believes the fight is the biggest in boxing and is keen to get it over the line when the time is right.
After multiple failed attempts at making Joshua vs Wilder, Eddie Hearn attempted to reach out to the American’s manager Shelly Finkel with a big money offer but was blanked in the process.
“I actually reached out to Shelly Finkel the other day because I have got so much money for Deontay Wilder in an offer, but they never come back to me, so I don’t know whether Deontay Wilder doesn’t want to hear about that offer or whatever,” he told Seconds Out.
Shortly after, Finkel came out and admitted that he had avoided Hearn’s email as Wilder was already set to face Robert Helenius at the time. The pair square off this weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in a WBC eliminator bout with the winner expected to face Andy Ruiz Jr in a final eliminator for a shot at Tyson Fury’s green strap.
“That is one of the number one matchups that everyone asks me about, so it’s not a question of if, it’s when. It just has to be the right timing, we’re not falling along with Eddie’s games and stuff like that, they drained us… When you come to us make sure it’s at the appropriate time, not when we already have a fight lined up.”
