In the aftermath of what was a long season, made even ‘longer’ by the fact that the titles were wrapped up by Japan, with races blurred among the 22 rounds, while off-track the news just kept erupting, so please think about your answers wisely so we get a good grasp on what the sentiments of readers, aka F1 fans, are regarding the past season.
In the end, Max Verstappen was the 2022 F1 World Champion, claiming his second title in two years, while Red Bull topped the constructors’ standings for the first time since 2013 in what was an all-Blue year of utter dominance
Early on in the season, Ferrari pranced ahead but soon ran out of steam and ultimately their team principal also ran away, while Mercedes gambled on ugly aero innovation which turned W13 into a very unlucky one for the team, one victory after so many years of dominance was tough to swallow.
The other teams? In truth, they were still nowhere, bit players in an F1 field that remains lopsided despite attempts to straighten things out with the new rules introduced this year, maybe they will eventually even out but this past season it was pretty much the same thing, except Red Bull (particularly in the hands of Max) was now the combo to beat, the world champion winning an incredible 15 times.
Not long ago it was Mercedes doing that kind of winning and Ferrari, as has become tradition, still chasing and fumbling along the way.
Off track it was also ultra-active, Sebastian Vettel quitting triggered a flurry of driver moves, and this month a similar frenzy of changes, albeit in the Team Principal, realm as Mattia Binotto’s arrivederci to Ferrari triggered a slew of unexpected moves.
There was also the Oscar Piastri saga which Otmar Szafanuer at Alpine really messed up with, while Zak Brown ‘stole’ the Aussie with a slick move that saw Alpine’s immense investment in the 21-year-old go up in smoke.
There were also unsavory incidents such as Nelson Piquet Snr. and his ill-advised comments about Lewis Hamilton which overnight turned him into a pariah of the sport, and all the other news that we tried to cover all year round.
