Abbott signs for Surrey in County cricket

Australian T20 allrounder Sean Abbott has signed for Surrey in the County Championship where he will replace West Indian Kemar Roach.

The 29-year-old New South Welshman, who has two ODI caps for Australia and also made seven T20 appearances for his national team, will link up with the Surrey squad in time for the championship visit of Gloucestershire to The Kia Oval, starting on May 27.

He will also be available for their final two games against Hampshire and Somerset.

Abbott, who played a big part of the Sydney Sixers sides that won the last two editions of the Big Bash League, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Surrey, one of the biggest counties in England.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to go over and play. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with a few of the Surrey guys who played at the Sydney Sixers who have done very well.

“Obviously I’m keen to pull on the Surrey colours and be involved in the set-up over there, and continue to learn and get better as a cricketer, whilst hoping to help Surrey win the Vitality Blast and the County Championship.”
