Horner: To go into the summer break unbeaten is mind blowing

Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team boss, hailed the job done by his team so far this season, claiming being unbeaten by the summer break is mind blowing.

In the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen delivered Red Bull’s 12th win of the 2023 Formula 1 season, the team now winning 13 races in a row counting the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Dutchman has won ten races so far, while his teammate Sergio Perez – who was second in the race on Sunday, seemingly starting to recover from his slump – has won two.

Verstappen has won two of the Sprint Races so far (Austria and Belgium), while Perez won the one in Azerbaijan, meaning the Red Bull team has not been beaten yet in 2023.

Speaking after the race last Sunday, Horner told Sky Sports F1: “It’s been the most amazing first half of the season.

“It’s all about teamwork and everybody doing their bit. That’s what the team has done in the first 12 races of the year and to go in unbeaten into the summer break is mind blowing,” he added.

A well-deserved break for the teams

“The way the team is operating at the moment we just need to keep this level going. Everybody deserves a well earned break over the next couple of weeks, recharge the batteries and then come back hard. Zaandvort will be a crazy race, Monza and then the international races.

“We want to keep the momentum going, taking it one race at a time and great to see another 1-2 today,” the Briton insisted.

Going further, Horner admitted: “I never dreamed of getting to this point unbeaten. That’s never been achieved before and we’ll come back after the break and see if we can keep this amazing momentum rolling over as many races as we possibly can.

“We’ve won 20 of the last 21 which is an incredible achievement. It might not be popular with the fans because it’s predictable but we’re just focused on trying to extract the best that we can and it’s a very special moment for this team because it’s historic.

“1988 was the last time anything like this was achieved and to think that we’ve been the team able to break that is something we could have only dreamt about,” Horner said, referring to McLaren’s dominant season when they won 11 races in a row, a record the Bulls broke in Hungary.

Red Bull now lead the 2023 F1 Constructors’ Championship by 256 from second-placed Mercedes.
