J.T. Realmuto almost made his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday against the Tigers at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.

He might play Monday night instead.

Phillies manager Joe Girardi scratched Realmuto from Sunday’s lineup against the Tigers because of “general soreness.” Girardi said on MLB Network Radio that if Realmuto feels better on Monday he could play against the Yankees in Tampa. Realmuto has been sidelined since last month, when he fractured his right thumb trying to block a ball in the dirt. Realmuto told reporters earlier this month that he fully expects to be in the Opening Day lineup on April 1.

Realmuto on Saturday got 7-10 at-bats, plus caught and threw to every base in a simulated game in Clearwater.

“I just said, ‘Hey, it’s cooler today, you have general soreness, I’m not going to play you for three at-bats,’” Girardi told MLB Network Radio. “I don’t think it’s worth it.”
