Retired former fighter Carl Froch has called out Jake Paul for what he has described as “disrespectful” comments ahead of his fight with Mike Tyson. The American internet sensation is set to face off against the ex-world heavyweight champion in a glamour bout in Texas this summer.
The upcoming contest has proven divisive since its announcement, with boxing purists such as Derek Chisora having questioned the wisdom surrounding the event given the age gap between the two adversaries. Others including Furia de Tyson have been more open-minded about the fight, in spite of the 30 years separating the participants.
Only ten fights into a professional career, former Disney child star Paul, 27, is set for the most publicized night of his life in the ring so far. Meanwhile, his opponent Tyson, 57, is out to prove that age is no barrier as he prepares to don his gloves for just the third time since his official retirement back in 2005.
It appears that British ex-boxer Froch is now backing the man known as ‘Iron Mike’ to roll back the years at AT&T Stadium in July. Joining the naysayers in terms of the spectacle itself, the former super-middleweight world champion admitted to Instant Casinos, he said: “He’s an absolute f****** idiot for fighting Mike Tyson. It’s wrong. It should be stopped.
“Jake Paul’s been dead disrespectful as well in his build up. He’s been biting ears off and trying to mimic Mike Tyson and copy him. I just don’t find it funny. If he had any b****** about him, he’d fight me, wouldn’t he? I’d love to punch his teeth down the back of his throat.”
The Nottingham-born ace did not specify what comments from Paul had got under his skin during his rant. However, the YouTube celebrity did address the consternation surrounding the fight on a recent episode of ‘BS w/ Jake Paul‘ show, acknowledging: “I am biting off a lot.
This is definitely the toughest, most savage, lethal opponent regardless of age, because the power is the last thing to go. But the reaction and reception of it is insane. I almost can’t even believe it, so very surreal and very, very grateful for all of that. We’re going to see.
Either way, Paul backed himself to withstand the challenge posed by the man once known as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’, adding: I want to see how hard he hits. Mike, I really want to see, bro,” he said as he vowed to bring the fight to his opponent. “Let’s see all the legends, the myths, because you’re Iron Mike Tyson.
“But I have an iron chin, people know that. I take shots,” he continued, as he talked up his own credentials ahead of the bout in Texas. “I think people are underestimating me being able to deal with his power, and that’s something that’s going to make it interesting.”
As for Froch, was was not to be moved when it comes to the legitimacy of the upcoming fight as a contest as he added: No, it’s not good for boxing. For Tyson Fury to say that it’s good for boxing…he needs to look in the mirror, have a look at what he’s done.
“Have a look at what professional fighters do and what they go through, and then think to himself, this is Jake Paul, a performing clown jumping in there with a 57-year-old man, who is a legend and an icon in professional boxing.”
