Max Verstappen arrives in Mexico on a high, after winning in Austin a fortnight ago, and believes it is important to nail the next three races of the upcoming triple header.
Verstappen was speaking in Red Bull’s press release ahead of this weekend’s 2021 Mexican Grand prix, and was clearly still exhibiting exuberance from his impressive victory Stateside.
“It was of course a great feeling to be back on the top step at the US Grand Prix,” he declared. “The last few races were obviously quite difficult with various engine penalties and a few unlucky moments, so it definitely felt good to be back up there with Checo beside me.
“It was a very satisfying win, we showed good pace at the US GP so I’m looking to build on that momentum and it was of course also very important to score solid points for the championship.”
To make things better, the Formula 1 Championship leader is arriving at a circuit where he historically excels, which makes a repeat of the Austin performance and result quite probable, and when asked about this he said: “Yes I have good memories from racing in Mexico with my two race wins.
“I’m looking forward to racing here again especially after not being able to travel here for a while,” Verstappen went on. “I know we will have a lot more fans now with Checo in the Team too so I’m looking forward to seeing all of them at the track and of course hopefully we can have a competitive weekend.”
The Mexican race will be the first in a triple header followed by races in Brazil and the newly added Qatar race, and the 24-year-old Red Bull ace is looking to consolidate his lead in the Drivers’ Standings.
“I’m looking forward to it and I’m excited to get going, although I know the triple header is going to be busy!” Verstappen admitted.
And then pointed out: “It’s incredibly important for myself and the Team to try and nail the next three races now that we are fighting for the championship.
“There will be a lot of travelling time and time differences but I’m looking forward to being back on track in Mexico and Brazil and I’m looking forward to the challenge of racing on the new track in Qatar,” the 18-time winner concluded.
Despite losing a big haul of points through no fault of his own at several occasions like Silverstone, Baku, and Hungary, in Monza he shouldered some blame for points lost.
However, Verstappen has kept his composure, and is delivering an impressive season, and as a result finds himself leading title rival Lewis Hamilton by 12 points.
