The 2022 Hall of Fame results will be announced Tuesday on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET. Though only a select few players reach the Hall, every player who makes it onto the ballot has done great things in his career.
This year, there are 13 first-year Hall of Fame candidates. MLB.com took a look back at the most memorable seasons for each of them.
Carl Crawford: One of the Rays’ first stars who stuck with them from their cellar-dwelling early years through their ascendance to AL pennant-winners in 2008, Crawford capped his Tampa Bay tenure with his best all-around season in 2010. More >
Prince Fielder: The big-swinging slugger became the Brewers’ single-season home run king in 2007, when he crushed 50 homers and made history by supplanting Willie Mays as the youngest player to ever reach that mark. More >
Ryan Howard: Howard’s MVP season in 2006 is one of the greatest offensive seasons in Phillies history. The only other players with 58 homers and 149 RBIs in a single season? Sammy Sosa, Jimmie Foxx and Babe Ruth. More >
Tim Lincecum: “The Freak” is an icon in San Francisco, and it started with the first of Lincecum’s back-to-back Cy Young Award-winning seasons in 2008, when he went 18-5 with a 2.62 ERA and a Major League-leading 265 strikeouts. More >
Justin Morneau: Morneau and the Twins were struggling in 2006 … until a talk with Ron Gardenhire one night in June turned it all around, with Morneau carrying Minnesota to a division title and winning the AL MVP Award. More >
Joe Nathan: Nathan’s emergence as a closer in his debut season in Minnesota in 2004 — he posted a 1.62 ERA and recorded 44 saves — marked the beginning of a new era for the Twins’ bullpen. More >
David Ortiz: The Red Sox legend capped his career with one of the greatest finales in baseball history. Ortiz’s 38 homers, 48 doubles, 87 extra-base hits and 127 RBIs all stand as records for a player in his final season. More >
Jonathan Papelbon: Papelbon’s fearlessness on the mound helped him seize the Red Sox closer role as a rookie in 2006, setting the stage for a career that included four All-Star nods and a World Series ring with Boston. More >
Jake Peavy: Peavy was the most dominant ace in baseball in 2007. The Padres right-hander won a Triple Crown by leading the National League with 19 wins, a 2.54 ERA and 240 strikeouts, earning him a unanimous Cy Young Award. More >
A.J. Pierzynski: In his final season in Chicago in 2012, Pierzynski reinvigorated his career by reinventing himself as a slugger, hitting a career-high 27 home runs and winning his only Silver Slugger Award. More >
Alex Rodriguez: The season that made A-Rod a star came in 1996 with the Mariners. Only 20 years old, Rodriguez won the MLB batting crown by hitting .358 while crushing 36 home runs, prompting teammate Ken Griffey Jr. to tell Sports Illustrated, “He’s the best. I can’t wear his jock.” More >
