Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions business partner Nakisa Bidarian has slammed a rumour first suggested by British heavyweight Dereck Chisora. Bidarian said: “Unequivocally there is no headgear for Paul vs Tyson, haters spreading fake news but it won’t stop the 10’s of millions of views.”
As well as Bidarian’s quotes, MMA and boxing journalist Ariel Helwani reported that both camps are pushing for the fight to be recognised as a professional bout, with a decision from the Texas commission not yet known.
On Helwani’s MMA Hour show, it was claimed that the weight class agreed upon and the number of rounds will determine if the fight is considered professional – with it likely being at heavyweight.
However, it could prove to be a challenge getting the fight sanctioned, due to the 30-year age difference between the two, with Tyson being 58 at the time they step into the ring.
But it does appear that Paul’s camp wants no part in wearing headgear as was suggested by Chisora.
Earlier this week, the heavyweight said: “I know for a fact they are using 18 oz gloves and head guards, if I’m not mistaken,” he said. “I think so. So we’re watching a sparring match. It’s a f****** joke. You think I’m paying to watch that? “.
