The Blue Jays are nearing a trade for two-time Platinum Glove-winning third baseman Matt Chapman, a source told MLB.com’s Jon Paul Morosi. Carlos Baerga was first to report that a deal was close. The clubs have not confirmed.
Once finalized, this would be the second time in recent history that Toronto has traded for an A’s third baseman, the last one being Josh Donaldson, who won MVP the following year.
If dealt, Chapman would be the third A’s player to be moved within the past week after Chris Bassitt was sent to the Mets on Saturday and Matt Olson was traded to the Braves on Monday.
Chapman, who is under club for two more seasons, has a .243/.330/.478 slash line in five seasons with Oakland, where he’s also earned two Gold Glove Awards.
