For this weekend’s 2023 British Grand Prix, McLaren will run a special Chrome livery in celebration of the paint jobs the team ran from 2006 to 2014.
Spin-doctors at Woking have married the iconic silver cars to their sponsors. Honouring winning machines of the Ron Dennis-led era, in which Lewis Hamilton won their last Formula 1 World Champion in 2008, driving the iconic silver with red flashes, Vodafone McLaren MP4-23.
At Silverstone this weekend Lando Norris and Oscar Paistri will be in ‘silverware’ for the occasion of Round 10 of the 2022 F1 World Championship
McLaren wrote in a press release: “This livery is part of McLaren’s ongoing celebrations of its 60th birthday, which has seen the Formula 1 team and Arrow McLaren IndyCar team revisit other heritage liveries, notably commemorating the iconic Triple Crown achievement.
“For the entire 2023 British Grand Prix race weekend, the Chrome livery will be carried on both MCL60 race cars. McLaren F1 Team driver Lando Norris will celebrate the return of chrome with a special helmet design and bespoke boots. Both Lando and teammate Oscar Piastri will also wear special race suits.
“The livery was unveiled on Monday 3 July at a special media event at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, with Lando, Oscar and McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown in attendance.”
After two pointless races, in Austria with the updated McLaren MCL60 quick out of the box, Norris finished fourth as the team seek to bounce back after a poor start to their season. Maybe the chrome look will be just the tonic they need for a podium at their home race on Sunday?
McLaren have not won a Grand Prix since Daniel Ricciardo did the business at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix; the team’s 183rd win in the top flight. Prior to that, they had not savoured victory since Jenson Button’s triumphed at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
