Ryan Newman is being fined a hefty amount for an infraction during NASCAR’s trip to Homestead-Miami earlier in October.
The veteran drove the No. 51 Ford for Rick Ware Racing at the event, and came home P26 at the end of the weekend. However, Newman was fined for not wearing a head sock while qualifying for the race.
He attempted to appeal the $10K fine, and a ruling has been made — Newman’s infraction and punishment was upheld.
“Appeals panel upholds $10K fine to Ryan Newman for not wearing a head sock during practice/qualifying at Homestead,” Pockrass posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Additionally, the appeal panel explained their reasoning, as there’s no set fine for Newman’s specific infraction.
“In the absence of a specific fine for the infraction, we listened to NASCAR’s description for how they arrived at the $10,000 penalty. However, the panel suggests NASCAR establish a policy that all safety violations have a published range,” the panel explained, via Pockrass.
At the end of the day, it’s in Ryan Newman’s best interest to utilize a head sock whenever he steps into the car, both financially and for his safety. We’re willing to bet at least $10K he doesn’t make that mistake again.

After today’s deadline came and went, Corey Heim and Tricon Garage will not appeal the penalty and fine he received from NASCAR. As a result of his retaliation on Carson Hocevar late in the Craftsman Truck Series championship race, Heim was docked 25 driver points and the team received a $12,500 fine.
Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar’s actions 10 days ago sparked something in the NASCAR world. Early in the season, ever since the Bushc Light Clash, really, aggression was a topic. A hot topic at that.
“Respect” and what it means and who gives it and who gets it – all of that was up in the air and up for discussion. These two young drivers brought all of that back to the forefront of the conversation.
Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports reported on Corey Heim and his team not appealing the decision. 5:00 PM EST was the deadline and it has come and gone.
Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar were battling for a championship. However, neither one of them walked away victorious as they let poor decisions get in their way. It would have been a really fun race to see the two battle it out. However, we didn’t get that.
Instead, we got Ben Rhodes limping to the championship. And kudos to him, he could have given it up or let the multiple late restarts be the end of his night – he didn’t. Rhodes did what he had to do and earned that championship through attrition.
Still, it is a shame that Corey Heim and his retaliation took the championship from Grant Enfinger. It was like multiple drivers had the trophy in their sights and all had it ripped away from them.
