You may as well start calling them the Triplets. The Twins turned their second triple play of the season on Monday night, this one coming in the fourth inning against the Rangers.
With nobody out and runners on first and second, Nathaniel Lowe scorched a liner to first off right-hander Sonny Gray. Minnesota first baseman Jose Miranda caught it, stepped on first and then threw to second. It very nearly was only a double play, because Miranda’s throw sailed high, but shortstop Carlos Correa was able to leap to corral it and came down on the base.
The Twins also turned the previous triple play in the Majors this season, on July 4 against the White Sox.
They also turned one last season and two in 2019, so this is not exactly a rarity for Minnesota lately.
