Probellum chief Sam Jones has described Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora III as a ‘kick in the balls’ for fans after the promise of Anthony Joshua vs Fury. The AJ fight looked set to take place on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales but negotiations fell through.
After overcoming the difficulty of organising a joint television deal with both promotional companies’ broadcast partners DAZN and BT Sport it appeared the final hurdle had been cleared. However, an undisclosed set of terms in the original paperwork proved to be too much for Eddie Hearn and George Warren to iron out.
Communications dropped at the eleventh hour and Chisora was approached as the replacement opponent on the same date. Boxing fans voiced their displeasure over the decision to enlist Del Boy’s services given the conclusive nature of Fury’s victories in their previous two contests back in 2011 and 2014. Jones is in agreement and doesn’t have any interest in seeing a third fight.
“I hope Derek’s getting paid a fortune, I hope it’s a great event, I hope it sells well and people have a wonderful night I’m just not really excited about it. I’m just not really excited for it, I watched their previous two fights, I was ringside for the last time they boxed, and it was one-sided, but it is what it is I hope Derek gets paid a fortune,” Jones told iFL TV.
Providing Fury comes through the Chisora fight he is expected to face Oleksandr Usyk in the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era. According to reports from ESPN’s Mike Coppinger organisers are understood to be targeting March in Saudi Arabia.
