Tyson Fury’s US promoter Todd DuBoef has given his initial reaction to the proposed Derek Chisora trilogy fight which is expected to take place on December 3. The Top Rank president admitted it is not the fight that fans would have wanted most, but remains a good fight given the circumstances.
According to UK promoter, Frank Warren, the third contest between Fury and Chisora is currently in negotiations in place of the highly-anticipated Anthony Joshua grudge match which fell through a few weeks ago. No official announcement has been released as of yet, however, Fury had promised that his next fight would be made clear this week.
When the pair squared off previously in 2011 and 2014, Fury was given the nod on both occasions. In their last encounter, The Mancunian became only the second man to stop Chisora via tenth-round retirement. Since then, only Dillian Whyte has managed to finish the durable veteran.
Speaking about the upcoming third encounter to Express Sport, DuBoef said: “That’s a tough one to say, what’s your opinion on the fight? I’d rather say, what’s your opinion on the circumstances because the circumstances are dictating the fight? I think if you asked anybody on the street everybody would want to see Fury vs Usyk and then probably if not even more, they wanted to see Fury and AJ.
“Tyson is Tyson, to get him back in the ring and to create a great event around him is always good. Wembley was amazing it was one of the most memorable nights I’ve had in my thirty years in boxing and to create that electricity one more time before the end of the year is great for the sport.”
