Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill Steward believes the Gypsy King can “absolutely” knockout Oleksandr Usyk and unify the heavyweight division, but admits he will have to “train extra hard” if the fight does take place on April 29.
Fury and Usyk have been locked in negotiations over a blockbuster heavyweight clash for three months now and are expected to meet at London’s Wembley Stadium on April 29, if terms can finally be agreed.
And Steward, who is the nephew of legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward and has worked with Fury since 2019, is confident he will defeat the Ukrainian.
“If that’s what they agree on and that’s what he wants to do, if he feels he can get ready for April 29 and fight Usyk then he’ll just have to train extra hard for that,” Steward told Sky Sports. “It’s a short bit of time but I believe Tyson has the ability and the physical attributes to handle the situation.”

And when asked if he believes Fury can knock Usyk out, Steward replied: “Absolutely. The gameplan is always a knockout.
“It’s setting it up, using certain punches, certain movements to make your opponent move into that knockout punch. It’s the same thing that I’ve been taught from Emanuel, him teaching me the sweet science of boxing.
“It’s all about the knockout and setting it up. Good jabs set up knockouts. Every fight is adjustments and watching what your opponent does and making adjustments. It’s not just one gameplan ever. It’s seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13. We’re only doing 12 rounds but you’ve got an extra one in the bag always.”
Fury and Usyk have been back-and-forth in calling one another out over the proposed fight, with the Brit last week offering a 70-30 purse split, in his favour. Usyk agreed to the deal and suggested Fury should also donate £1m to Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
The Gypsy King also later suggested he wanted any rematch clause taken out of the contract, only for Usyk to suggest it was in fact Fury who wanted it included in the first place. It remains to be seen if the fight will go ahead in April, although Fury has since claimed he is now in training camp for the showdown.
