Boxing icon and former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has already told Anthony Joshua how he can beat fellow Brit Tyson Fury as the pair consider a fight on November 26 or December 3. The two British heavyweights have never met and an eagerly anticipated bout has never looked closer after Fury called out his rival on social media.
Retired fighter Tyson held the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight belts in 1987 retaining them until being beaten by Buster Douglas in 1990. Tyson appeared a month ago on the Eddie Hearn’s BBC “No Passion, No Point” podcast and warned that Joshua was too predictable.
He said: “Joshua is a masterful puncher. But you can see his punches coming, he telegraphs his punches.” Unbeaten Fury, aged 34, had announced his immediate retirement after beating Dillian Whyte by knockout in April.
“I would like to give you the opportunity to fight me for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world in the next few months. You’re coming off a 12 round fight so you’re match fit and ready. I’m giving you a few months notice. If you’re interested I’ll send you the date over and we can rumble.”
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, set a one-day deadline earlier on Thursday morning for Joshua to agree to terms with Fury stating that the purse would be split 60/40 to Fury and 50-50 for a rematch. Fury sent a second video online and said he would continue to send one ‘every hour’ until Joshua accepted or rejected the fight.
