This is the UFC 265 live blog for Michael Chiesa vs. Vicente Luque, a welterweight main card bout for Saturday’s fight card at Toyota Center in Houston.
The top-tier welterweights compete in what could be an eliminator for the No. 1 or No. 2 contender spot in the 170-pound division. Chiesa, the No. 7 ranked welterweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, is undefeated since moving up from the lightweight division, winning four straight including a decision over Neil Magny in January.
Luque, the No. 9 fighter, has been just shy of a shot at the top-five in the division, having most recently picked up the biggest win of his career with a submission of ex-champ Tyron Woodley. A decision loss to two-time title challenger Stephen Thompson halted the fearsome striker’s momentum after a six-fight winning streak. But with three straight wins, he’s battled his way back into contention.
