WNBA Previews: Chicago Sky square off with Los Angeles Sparks

The Chicago Sky face the Los Angeles Sparks just two days after suffering a 76-61 loss. The Las Vegas Aces scored 113 points, a franchise record, against the Indiana Fever (1-6) and will look to earn a third-straight win when they face the Fever again. Lastly, the Connecticut Sun are on the road to face the Minnesota Lynx, who are last team in the league without a win.

The Sky have dropped their last three games after winning their first two games. They set a franchise record with 28 turnovers in their loss to the Sparks, something they will no doubt be hoping to improve upon tonight. Chicago’s Courtney Vandersloot will also be hoping to bounce back from a two point performance on 1-of-6 shooting.

The Sparks generated 35 points from their bench in the first meeting to just 15 for the shorthanded Sky, who were without Stefanie Dolson, Allie Quigley, and Candace Parker. Quigley and Parker are still dealing with injuries and will be out again. Dolson is out as she is participating in the 3×3 tournament for Team USA. One player to watch for the Sparks will be Kristi Toliver, who took just one shot in the last game.

The Aces go for another win against Fever

The Aces were in a groove offensively during their last game against the Fever. Las Vegas shot 55 percent and made a season-high seven 3-point shots. Their aggressiveness generated 28 fouls that led to 39 attempts from the charity stripe. The Aces dominated the paint scoring 44-22.

The Fever have just one win this season and have struggled mightily from the 3-point area, shooting 27.4 percent, which is second to last in the league. The Fever’s 3-point attempts are down from 2020 (20 to 16.4) as well. In the early going, the Fever seem to have regressed on all fronts from last season.

Lynx face the defensively tough Sun

The Lynx have not been able to find a winning formula this season and the Sun have yet to lose a game in regular time. The Lynx lost to the Seattle Storm in their last outing, trailing by as much as 30. The Sun beat the Washington Mystics in their last game.

The Lynx are second-to-last in scoring while the Sun allow the least points. Sylvia Fowles has been the main offensive threat for the Lynx but with the return of Napheesa Collier, the Lynx will be hoping that they can find a win.

The Sun have been able to hold five of their first seven opponents to under 80 points and have been able to score over 80 points in five games as well. Jonquel Jones and DeWanna Bonner will look to stress the Lynx defense and hold Fowles and Collier in check.
