A post-race scuffle on Saturday at the RAPTOR King of Tough 250 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway has incurred penalties for the Xfinity Series crew.
Driver JJ Yelley‘s crew chief Jason Miller has been suspended for two races by NASCAR following the dust-up, which saw Miller shove Kyle Weatherman up against his car.
Miller exclaimed the warning, “Next time you touch my racecar!” as he pulled away.
According to a post on X by Seth Eggert, it is the first time a crew member has been suspended for a fight since 2008. You can view video of the interaction between Miller and Weatherman below.
While the incident that got Miller suspended came following the the RAPTOR King of Tough 250 race, there was plenty of other drama on the weekend. The Ambetter Health 400 had one of the most thrilling finishes in modern NASCAR history.
The race went down to the wire, then featured a three-wide finish at the line that required NASCAR to use high-resolution imaging to determine a winner.
Ambetter Health 400 finish one for the ages
Xfinity series crew chief drama aside, the crown jewel of the weekend was the finish in the Ambetter Health 400, which is one that will be talked about for years. It featured the third closest margin of victory in NASCAR history when Daniel Suárez won over Ryan Blaney by 0.003 seconds and over Kyle Busch by 0.007 in a three-wide finish.
Nobody was quite able to get enough of a draft to slingshot in front of the other drivers, and a threesome formed up right before the finish line.
Blaney took the inside track, while Busch was sandwiched between Blaney and Suarez on the outside.
NASCAR had to use high-tech imaging to determine the winner, as the finish was so close that FOX’s cameras at the finish line couldn’t clearly distinguish which driver finished ahead between Suarez and Blaney.
“Overall just real proud of everybody at RCR,” Busch said after the race. “Our Cheddar’s Camaro was fast. It’s good to see Daniel get a win. We were helping each other being Chevy team partners and working together there. Shows that when you do have friends and you can make alliances that they do seem to work, and that was a good part of today.
“I was hoping to get a win because I know everybody wanted a free No. 8 special on Monday from Cheddar’s, so damnit. We’ll have to do it again and find another one.”
