BOSTON — Josh Donaldson and Matt Carpenter homered to highlight the offensive attack as the Yankees prevailed in an old-fashioned Fenway Park slugfest, picking up their third consecutive victory with a 12-5 win over the slumping Red Sox on Friday night.
Donaldson homered for a third consecutive game, launching a three-run shot in the first inning, and Carpenter cleared the fences with his ninth homer as a Yankee as New York overcame a brief outing by left-hander Nestor Cortes, leaning on its lineup thunder and bullpen.
Staked to an early lead, Cortes was knocked for four runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 innings. Christian Vázquez knocked a two-run double in the first inning before Trevor Story and Bobby Dalbec hit fourth-inning homers off the lefty, who walked two and struck out four.
Boston has lost eight of its past 11 games, with starter Connor Seabold permitting seven runs over just 2 2/3 innings before exiting with a right forearm injury.
