Bahrain International Circuit chief executive Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa has said that an “extra kerb” could be introduced at Turn 4 to prevent drivers running wide.
The corner became the cause of controversy during last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen forced to give back a position after passing Lewis Hamilton while off the track.
This came after Hamilton had been consistently running wide at the corner earlier in the race, only for both drivers to be later told that they needed to stay within the white lines at Turn 4.
In order to avoid future confusion, Al Khalifa said something could be done in order to ensure that going wide at Turn 4 was not advantageous to the drivers.
“As a venue, obviously we follow the homologation of the FIA and what they need,” he told RacingNews365.com. “You can add an extra kerb in Turn 4, we have the the red and white kerbs.
“The idea is obviously to keep them on the track and what can you do so that there’s no advantage going out.
“If I go around BIC there’s certain places where that happens, there’s certain places where it doesn’t because there’s no advantage,” he added.
“So the idea is to work with the FIA and maybe extending the kerbs a bit like having a double layer or something that could limit that.
“As long as there’s no advantage, then people won’t use it.”
