We have a lot of talented golfers throughout the world. Some are more well known than others, like Tiger Woods or Jack Nicholson. We’ve also had some incredible female golfers through the years – some more recent, some from many years ago. Regardless of when they played, one thing is clear – these players have made a monumental impact on their sport.

Before you check out Fanduel’s live golf odds, we thought we would first dive into some of the top 5 female golfers of all time. We want to pay tribute to these ladies with some incredible talent, so here’s our rundown!

Mickey Wright

It’s almost impossible to mention the greats in women’s gold without bringing up Mickey Wright. She first joined the LPGA Tour in 1955, and from there she made history. By the time 2000 came around, Wright was ranked the top golfer in the women’s leagues, and also the ninth best golfer all around by Golf Digest.

Much like other players on this list, Wright has a tremendous number of LPGA tour wins – 82 in total. She’s slightly behind Kathy Whitworth in this respect, but it’s still worth praising. She also won the LPGA Vare Trophy 5 times in a row during 1960-64, and that’s not the only award she won!

In addition to this, she also managed to win 13 LPGA major championships. You will also notice that her name is in the World Golf Hall of Fame – it’s stayed there since 1964 when she was first added to it. It’s no wonder with all of this in mind that she also managed to win the title of Female Athlete of the Year twice.

Patty Berg

It’s hard to imagine where the LPGA Tour would even be right now if it wasn’t for Patty Berg. Why? She was the founding member! In addition to this, she was one of the key players from the 1940s until the 1960s in the LPGA tour. It goes without saying that she is no longer playing, but during her time as a golfer she won a number of different trophies and awards for her contributions to the sport. She also won 15 LPGA major championships while she was playing, and was also named the winner of the 1946 Women’s Open.

Much like Mickey Wright, Patty Berg also managed to win Female Athlete of the Year. She managed to do this three times in total, and eventually was added to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1951.

Kathy Whitworth

Kathy Whitworth has quite the history with women’s golf. She was incredibly talented and won 88 times in total during LPGA tours. She doesn’t have quite as many majors as many other players, of course, with only six to her name.

Most of her wins came during the 1960s and 70s, so she is a player that’s something of a blast from the past. What’s especially interesting is that in 1990, she became the very first American Captain in the Solheim Cup. This is a pretty tremendous accomplishment and certainly one worth celebrating! Her accolades may not be quite as impressive as some of her other peers on this list, but this player is one that has dominated in her sport and should certainly be remembered.

Annika Sorenstam

Annika (pictured)  has since retired from golf, but she’s definitely one of the most successful golfers to date. Throughout her golfing career she managed 90 international tournament wins and has claimed the title of female golfer with the highest number of wins in history. On the LPGA tour she also managed 72 wins, the third highest number of wins in total on the LPGA tour.

She also won numerous trophies and was also put in the Word Golf Hall of Fame in 2003.

Louise Suggs

Louise Suggs certainly made her mark in the world of Women’s Golf, becoming one of the founding members of the LPGA tour. Women’s golf as we know it today is partially thanks to her input! During her career, she managed to win the LPGA Tour 61 times, which is a tremendously high number. She won numerous titles and awards, and even won the U.S. Women’s Open twice – once in 1949 and then again in 1952. Her name was put in the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1951.

Conclusion

Do you recognize any of these names? These are some of the best female golfers in history who have made a massive impact on golf as we know it today. We have a lot to thank these ladies for!
