If Sunday’s Futures Game was a sign of things to come, the National League has some serious power headed its way.

Four players homered in an 8-3 win over the American League, which had just one hit over the first six innings before finally breaking through in the seventh.

Brennen Davis (Cubs No. 2 prospect, MLB No. 45, according to MLB Pipeline) went deep twice, while Jose Barrero (Reds No. 4 prospect, MLB No. 85), Michael Toglia (Rockies No. 3) and Francisco Álvarez (Mets No. 1, MLB No. 34) also homered in the win.

After the two teams played to a tie in 2019 in the first game since the format changed from U.S. vs. World, the NL became the first team to win in the league vs. league showdown.

Barrero’s one-out homer in the first against AL starter Cole Winn (Rangers No. 3) put the NL on the board, while Toglia belted a two-run homer against Texas’ Cole Ragans, a former heralded prospect coming back from a pair of elbow surgeries. That blast sparked a four-run frame for the NL, as Nolan Gorman (Cardinals No. 2) doubled in a run and Luis Campusano (Padres No. 3) capped the inning with a sac fly.

Davis’ solo shot in the fourth off Josh Winder (Twins No. 12) extended the NL’s lead to 6-0.

With two runners on base and two out in the fifth, Cade Cavalli (Nationals No. 1, MLB No. 77) fanned Jasson Dominguez (Yankees No. 1, MLB No. 24) on a high 99.6 mph fastball, snuffing out the AL’s best chance at a rally.

Cavalli was one of five pitchers to throw a scoreless inning for the NL, joining starter Matthew Liberatore (Cardinals No. 1, MLB No. 27), Andre Jackson (Dodgers No. 27), Nick Lodolo (Reds No. 1, MLB No. 43) and Manuel Rodriguez of the Cubs.

Davis added his second homer of the day in the sixth, and Álvarez went back-to-back to put an exclamation point on the NL’s victory.

The AL tried to rally from the sizeable deficit, scoring three times in the seventh on a two-run double by Jeter Downs (Red Sox No. 2, MLB No. 35) and an RBI hit by Austin Martin (Blue Jays No. 2, MLB No. 16).
