The sports world makes for a beautiful palette but individual images can get lost in the constant shuffle. Here are the best Getty Images sports photos from this week.

Kemba Walker of the Boston Celtics laughs during the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets at TD Garden on Feb. 16, 2021, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Looking for strong emotions in regular season NBA games can be a challenge during a normal year, but during the pandemic, it has gotten even tougher. While players usually signal and respond to the crowd after hitting 3-point shots, without fans the emotions can be more muted. Here Kemba Walker of the Boston Celtics flashes his smile that could be seen across the arena. Kemba is a standup leader on the team and his enthusiastic support of his teammates always translates well in photos.

Joey Logano, driver of the #22 Shell Pennzoil Ford, and Cole Custer, driver of the #41 HaasTooling.com Ford, are involved in an on-track incident during the NASCAR Cup Series 63rd Annual Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 14, 2021, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

NASCAR is definitely a sport where a photographer can’t let their guard down for a second. The cars race around the track hitting speeds of 200 mph and if you blink it’s over. At this year’s Daytona 500, I was responsible for turn three on the track where this wreck happened. Up until the last lap of the race, the drivers had driven very cautiously and not taken many risks. Right before the leaders rounded my corner on the last lap, I heard over the radio broadcast, “wreck, wreck!” and I started firing off frames as cars collided with each other and went spinning by me on fire. In these situations, no matter what, you just keep shooting. Even after the cars come to a stop you keep looking for pictures. Brad Keselowski climbed out of his car, threw his gloves and put his hands over his face in a reaction that really told the story.

Whenever you are shooting Serena Williams it is hard to take your camera off her as she always makes great pictures. There are certain moments when the match gets tight where you can feel her intensity rise. This was a breakpoint opportunity, it was close and I had noticed Serena talking to her herself and you could feel her emotions were ready to boil over. Luckily she made the shot to break Aryna Sabalenka’s serve and let out this scream in celebration. She always plays with such passion which is why she is my favorite player on the tour to photograph.
