OAKLAND — After their 3-1 win over the A’s on Monday night, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli announced that the club will activate shortstop Carlos Correa from the 10-day IL prior to Tuesday’s game.

Correa was placed on the IL on May 10 (retroactive to May 6), a day after he exited during the seventh inning of a 5-3 loss to the Orioles after he was hit on the finger by a pitch.

On his road back, Correa did some swinging, throwing and light ground-ball drills before the Twins’ game on Saturday, with Baldelli targeting the start of the club’s road trip as a potential return date.

Correa is hitting .255/.320/.372 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 24 games this season.

To make room on the active roster for Correa’s return, Baldelli added that right-hander Jharel Cotton will be designated for assignment. Cotton, 30, has pitched in four games for the Twins in 2022, posting a 1.35 ERA across 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven and issuing six walks. He signed with Minnesota as a free agent in December.
